10 Best Used Cars Under $10,000
By: Good2GoPublished: May 11, 2016
Some folks prefer to buy new cars off the lot, but for others that’s just not realistic or appealing. Luckily, nowadays you can find perfectly fine used vehicles for under $10,000. It’s all about finding the perfect balance between price and mileage. Most times, you’ll have to go back a few model years in order to find a low mileage vehicle with an equally low price tag. Below is a list of the ten best used cars under $10K.
2007-2012 Nissan Versa
If you’re just after a reliable ride that can get you from point A to point B, the Nissan Versa may be for you. It’s a budget friendly car that you can find used for well under $10,000; however it’s one of the newest models on the list.
Trucks & SUVs
2001-2005 Toyota RAV4
The Toyota RAV4 offers compact size, a carlike driving experience, and most importantly, excellent fuel economy. Indeed, the RAV4 returned 21 mpg city/27 mpg highway, whether you opted for the manual or the automatic. And the RAV4 was hardly a slouch off the line thanks to 161 horses and a reasonable curb weight. This will probably be right around the $10,000 mark.
1999-2007 Chevrolet Silverado
There are many pickups available on a $10,000 budget, but the Silverado is one of our favorites. It’s handsome, capable and offers a version for just about everyone. The Silverado is exceptionally reliable, and replacement parts are easy to come by, making repairs more affordable. In our mind, the Silverado is the king of the hill when it comes to pickup trucks under $10,000.
2001-2007 Ford Escape
The Ford Escape is impressive to resale buyers because of its passenger room and the amount of space that it has for transporting cargo. There were so many new Ford Escapes sold that the used market has plenty of options to choose from. If you’re willing to go for a higher-mileage second generation model, you can score one for less than $10,000, even with optional four-wheel drive.
2001-2005 Honda Civic
The Honda Civic is beloved for its high resale value, and its availability as a coupe, sedan, or hatchback all under $10,000. The Civic is known for its reliability, gas mileage, mechanical simplicity and a surprisingly long list of features in even the most basic model. Remember that the Civic has a timing belt, and the models you’d be looking at will be the age when you should think about replacing it. Factor that additional cost into your budget and you should be able to walk away with a good deal.
2003-2011 Ford Crown Victoria
A longtime favorite of both police departments and taxi services, the Crown Victoria is a beast of a car. They are easy to find and affordable, though more expensive for gas, since they boast a 4.6-liter V8. You’d be hard-pressed to find a ride that’s more comfortable, roomier, tougher and more reliable than a Crown Victoria. And some used police cruisers come with extra features. Bonus!
2003-2008 Toyota Corolla
The Toyota Corolla is a lesson in consistency for providing basic, comfortable, and cost-effective transportation. The Corolla is meant to eat up commuter miles while consuming as little gas and as few parts as possible. It’s not the most glamorous ride, but you can find a 50,000-mile tenth-generation model for just $10,000 – which means the car has roughly another 150,000 miles left in it (at bare minimum).
2006 Mini Cooper
2006 Mini Cooper is a great choice that boasts a 1.6 liter, supercharged four-cylinder, and its own “way of life” feeling (think of the kind of folks who are passionate about their “Jeep lifestyles” – kind of like that, but with a British accent). And in this particular model year, there were a lot of cool color combos happening – like Chili Red, Cordoba Beige and Pure Silver. It’s handsome and it’s entertaining. It’s a Mini, and a 2006 can be had right around the $10,000 mark. There is a convertible model from the same year, but it will jump your budget.
2005 BMW 325i
2005 BMW 325i offers rear-wheel drive, a five-speed manual, and an interior that is simple and clean. Even though the car is a decade old, it still conjures class and appeal with many people. Despite its age, it is still smart and stylish. If you look hard, you can find one below $10,000. And hey – a Beamer is a Beamer, right?
2006-2008 Infiniti G35
The Infiniti G35 was created to compete with the BMW 3 Series luxury sedan. The entry-level Infiniti G35 is engaging to drive, and can be purchased with many luxury features within the $10,000 budget. It’s a great affordable luxury sedan because its original pricing was fairly reasonable. You’re going to have to purchase an 8- to 10-year old car if you want to stay in this budget, but the quality, features and styling are well worth sacrificing a couple of model years.
