Things to Do During the Fall Season
By: Good2GoPublished: October 13, 2015
The air is crisp and the leaves are starting to turn colors. It’s officially fall. Until Thanksgiving, most families are left with only the weekends to spend time enjoying the cool weather. Take advantage of every moment – before you know it we’ll be curled up begging for the winter snow to melt. Here are nine ideas for things to do with your family and friends during the autumn months.
Take a hike
As leaves start to change colors, round up the troops and set out for the local hiking trail. Pack a backpack full of snacks, drinks, and a camera. There’s something special about drudging up a steep incline as the foliage crunches beneath your feet.
Make your family Halloween costumes
Sure, you can go to the mall and pick up a costume, but what’s the fun in that? Trick-or-treating is much more enjoyable when you can say that your costume was made by hand! The costumes don’t even have to be elaborate. Get the kids involved to make it even more fun.
Go apple picking
If you’re lucky enough to live within driving distance of an orchard, make the trip. Picking apples is about the experience, yet at the same time you get to leave with a bag full of delicious fruit. Think about all the great fall desserts you can make!
Wait, that doesn’t sound fun. You’re right, raking leaves might not be fun, but I’m sure your kids will enjoy the pile of fun you’ve just created. Maybe after they’ve had their fun you can coerce them into helping you bag them up. There’s nothing wrong with bribery.
Pick your own pumpkins and carve them
Here’s your chance to show off that inner-artist you’ve been suppressing. It’s hard to drive a few miles down the road during autumn and not run into a pumpkin patch. Take your family for the ride and let them all pick out their favorite pumpkin. Turn it into a jack-o-lantern or any other creation you desire to complete the process.
Hopefully you don’t scare easily, but even if you do what the heck? It’s almost Halloween! It seems as though each year haunted attractions are getting more elaborate. From haunted houses to spooky mazes, there’s something for everyone. If you have young children or would simply like to use that as your excuse, there’s tons of corn mazes without the monsters.
Decorate your yard
Fall is a great time to show off your decorating skills and become the envy of the neighborhood. You can make your own scarecrow or simply setup some hay bales to display your newly picked pumpkins.
Go for a long drive
Sometimes it’s nice to just get in your car and cruise. Autumn is perfect for leisurely drives. Get out of town and venture down the winding roads of the countryside.
